Book Reviews
Affaire de Coeur
Colonel Gabriel Von Brockman bulled his way into the assignment. His nemesis, Doctor Lilpout has located the original source of information on perserving and extending human life. Now Gabriel must travel back in time to keep the information out of the evil doctors hands. Alissia Prescott is on vacation when she watched this stud walk out of the ocean. He is the answer to this widow's prayers. A scientist, she had dedicated herself to her work. This humk made her heart sing.
Due to a break to her laboratory schedule Alissia flies back home and finds that a thief seemed to be interested in her deceased husband's work. The mystery surrounding the break-in escallates as threatening letters and phone calls arrive. Gabriel, who has been assigned as the new head of her department, also seems interested in her husband's work. Who is threatening her? Who can she trust?
Romantic Sci-Fi is a hard field to crack. Karen Culver has stuck her toe in with this first novel. Nicely done on the romance, great on sexual tension. The story is a grand time travel adventure, with a hero from the future coming back just in time to save the world. He finds more than he bargained for in the woman of his dreams.
Romance Communications
In order to save the world of the future, a man travels back to the present to prevent some vital information from falling into the wrong hands. He must aid a widowed scientist to protect her late husbands work.
With his nemesis finally located, Colonel Gabriel Von Brockman pulls rank to gain the Time-Travel assignment to the 20th Century. Doctor Lilpout has located the original source of information on human life extension and plans to exploit it.
On a tropical vacation, Alissia Prescott first sets eyes on this handsome hunk emerging from the sea. A scientist dedicated to her occupation shouldn't be so affected by the sight of a muscled body and a handsome face. Her vacation is cut short when she learns of a break-in to her lab. Upon checking the lab, she notes that the thief is interested in her deceased husband's work. Also she finds a menacing note, threatening her if she doesn't do as demanded. Then Gabriel shows up at the laboratory as her new supervisor and he is interested in her late husbands work.
Yesterday Once More is full of internal and external tension with intrigue and plenty of point and counter point. To walk the narrow line between romance and science fiction and fill both adequately takes considerable talent, imagination and a love of both. Congratulations Karen Culver, you did a grand job. I love this book and give it a two thumbs up!
The Word On Romance / Judith Rippelmeyer
Eternal life is a reality 2188, and time travel is common, but dangerous in the wrong hands. Colonel Gabriel Von Brockman returns to 1999 to find his nemesis, Doctor Lilpout, who has located the original source of information on preserving and extending human life. If Lilpout succeeds it will be the downfall of all mankind.
The key to finding Lilpout is Alissia Prescott, a genetic scientist. Alissia, is on a personal quest, to find the cure to a deadly disease that runs rampant in her family. While on vacation, Alissia first sees the handsome Brock emerging from the sea, stark naked. When her vacation is cut short, because someone breaks into her lab, Alissia discovers the thief was interested in the work of her deceased husband. Then Gabriel shows up at the laboratory, as her new supervisor, and he is interested in her late husbands work. Who should she trust when her life is in such danger?
I am not a big fan of romantic Sci-Fi, although time-travel is right up my alley, but Karen Culver has won me over with YESTERDAY ONCE MORE. Her first novel, Ms Culver gives readers a stunning entry into the romance field. A marvelous romance, on its own merits, Ms Culver adds spicy sexual tension, an exciting mystery, and just the right amount of Sci-Fi, mixed with time-travel, to make this a can't-put-it-down book. Brava Karen Culver! Reader's won't want to pass this one up.
Angelfire / Molly Martin - 4 Stars
Phillip Lilpout has again surfaced and Colonel Gabriel Von Brockman is determined to locate him. It is 1999 and Lilpout appears to have teamed up with scientist Alissa Prescott in another of his get rich quick schemes. Geneticist Prescott is the beautiful widow of another geneticist. Brock has his own score to settle with Lilipout, and nothing or no one will stand in his way. Brock lands in the Caribbean, and it so happens that Prescott is there on vacation. As she watches him emerge naked from the sea Prescott is struck with his perfect appearance. The only problem for Prescott: is the disquieting telephone call telling her that her laboratory has been broken into.
Brock and Prescott form an unlikely alliance filled with distrust, tingle of passion and lots of gritty dialogue. The enigmatic Fred comes and goes as the story progresses. Brock is certain Lilpout is teamed with Prescott. Prescott is certain Brock is the one who has been trying to steal her late husbands work and left her a cryptic message on her computer.
In Yesterday Once More Writer Culver has crafted as fast paced, absorbing novel filled with lots of hot-headed characters and fervent dialogue coupled with a good credible story line. The notion of space travel in tandem with genetic research and ardent romance serve to draw the reader into the narrative from the opening lines when Brock's time travel craft crashes to earth. The reader is held captive as the various players interact with one another. Action is fast paced, dialogue is tart, snappy and a delight to read. Lilpout is a villains villain. Brock is the man every woman dreams she will one day meet. Prescott is the woman who wins his heart. Fred and his near misses is just plain fun to meet.
I especially like the format in which the narrative itself is presented and then all the author's bio, and other information is added to the end of the book. This is a 19 chapter work with each link actually WORKING as I moved from one to the other. That alone is a major plus. Included in the material following the final paragraphs of the narrative reader will find a contest, notes about LionHearted including their own take on publishing and books in general. The Author's Bio and an order form are printable and clickable as need be.
Good book, good format. Enjoyed the read, and I am not fond of Romance per se as a genre. Am happy to recommend for those who do enjoy good passion filled Romance along with their tales.

Karen Culver
Karen recalls reading her first romance at the tender age of sixteen. She's been hooked on the genre since. A left-handed, right-brained artistic type, she spent years searching for her perfect creative outlet. Being tone deaf and unable to draw anything more than stick figures, writing seemed the most obvious direction.
While doing research for this book, she came across the American Cancer Society's most recent statistics: one out of every eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during her life.
The good news is that the survival rate for localized breast cancer has risen from 72% in the 1940's to 97% today. The change is primarily due to early detection by breast self-examination (BSE) and Mammography.
In this story, the heroine is cured with a simple injection. As of this book's release date, this is only fiction. But researchers are diligently working to find better treatments and ultimately a cure.
For example, when this story was written the susceptibility genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, were still being studied. At the time of publication, conclusive data is already available on their hereditary effects.
If you have a strong family history of breast cancer, there are ways to determine if you are at risk which should be discussed with your physician.
A member of the Romance Writers of America, Karen is also active in her local chapter, Romance Authors of the Heartland. She enjoys the daily challenges of living in a household of men, (one husband, two sons and a dog) and wouldn't trade the pandemonium for the world! A native Nebraskan, she is a born and bred Cornhusker football fan.
Karen's writing credentials include a contribution to the recently released Chicken Soup for the Couple's Soul.
